As part of our ongoing commitment to social action both locally and in Israel, our synagogue community has "adopted" Ya'ad School for the Educationally Challenged in Bat Yam, Israel (south of Tel Aviv). "Ya'ad" means aim. This past summer, our congregational trip to Israel paid a visit to the school and participants were very impressed by the devotion of the staff to the well being and development of the 184 students.
Funds donated by KM members for Ya'ad School will help provide books and academic school supplies as well as materials for vocational classes. Contributions will also pay for shoes, clothing and food for students whose families suffer from extreme poverty.
Donations of any amount are welcomed and appreciated. Please make your check out to Kehillat Ma'arav and note on it that the donation is for Ya'ad School. Tributes for any occasion may also be earmarked for the newly established "Ya'ad School Fund," and will be acknowledged in The Voice.

Jewish World Watch
KM is a proud supporter of Jewish World Watch (JWW), a project of a coalition of synagogues working together to mobilize synagogues, their schools, members and the community to combat genocide and other egregious violations of human rights around the world.

SOVA Food Pantry
"Sova" is a Hebrew word meaning "to eat and be satisfied." The SOVA Food Pantry is a non-profit, non-sectarian program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles (JFS). Every week, volunteers distribute food to those in need at the three SOVA Food Pantries and Resource Centers.
SOVA needs your help! Financial donations are appreciated, as are non-perishable, unopened packages of food. SOVA also welcomes donations of can openers, toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.), and baby food and supplies (such as diapers, wipes, and formula).
You may leave your items in the large round SOVA bin in the KM synagogue lobby, or deliver them directly to the SOVA pantry in our area -- at 8846 W. Pico Boulevard -- during pantry hours (Mondays & Wednesdays, 10-1:45, Fridays 10-1:15, & the 1st & 3rd Sunday morning of each month from 9:30 to 11:45).
