SHABBAT SHALOM
Welcome to our "Anniversary" Shabbat Service led by members of our KM community.
Though we know more about the human reproductive process than any generation before, the miraculous nature of birth -- of bringing a human being into the world -- has not changed over time. That ageless feeling of awe associated with childbearing is the background for the regulations found in this morning’s Torah portion. Ancient civilization transformed normal healthy body functions into matters of spiritual purity and impurity. After the Second Temple’s destruction, the procedures that occurred for a woman after childbirth described in this morning’s Torah portion lapsed.
Thank you to Barbara Turner and Mark Anderson for serving as our greeters this morning. Torah will be read by Lynn Beliak, Cyndy Glucksman, Marcia Greenberg, Sharon Krischer, Sharlene Lauretz, Laura Miller, Marcia Minsky, and Haftorah chanted by Ornah Becker. Thank you to our Darshan, Ronnie Kun. Please join us after services for Kiddush sponsored by Sharlene Lauretz in memory of her husband Sy Lauretz, by Judy and Manny Baker in honor of their anniversay, by Sherrill Kushner and Ed Klein and Sharon and Joel Krischer and anonymous donors in honor of the women of the synagogue, and by Los Angeles Hebrew High School, in honor of their students and exchange students from Israel who have joined us this morning. Thank you to all of them and Mazel Tov to those celebrating their anniversaries with us this month. KM invites you to honor Shabbat and commemorate significant moments in your life by sponsoring a Kiddush after weekly services.
