The parallels between what is unfolding currently in Iraq and Jewish history are remarkable. On Erev Purim, Sadaam's regime, like Haman's evil regime in the 4th century BCE, began its fall into the ash-heap of history.

Less than 3 weeks later, just one week before Pesah, Iraqis began to taste the sweetness of freedom. Yet, freedom is not enough, as demonstrated by the mass rioting in Iraqi cities.

Just as God liberated the ancient Israelites for the purpose of giving Torah and living a life of Mitzvot (Shavuot) the coalition did not simply liberate the Iraqis for the sake of freedom alone; rather, the coaliton liberated the Iraqis so that they could make a better life for themselves, and create a society that adheres to the principles of law and justice.

May God bles the Iraqi people, helping to guide them to a bright future, free of corruption and evil; a nation committed to goodness and morality; a nation that chooses to make peace with Israel and the world.
