The Cantor's Voice March 2006
Celebrating Shabbat is always a treat. Celebrating it with 24 students from
our religious school at Camp Ramah in Ojai, CA over the February 10-12
weekend was magnificent.
The weather was picture postcard perfect. The program was meaningful and educational. Most impressive, however, was observing the exchanges between our students. They sang together, played together, and prayed together. They made new friends and they cemented old friendships. They had a Ramah experience. We are so fortunate to have, just 70 miles away, a place for Jewish kids and teens to be Jewish, study and improve their Hebrew, and to just hang out and be a kid. What a wonderful opportunity. Our retreat was but a taste of a month-long summer session. This summer we have at least four Kehillat Ma'arav kids/teens attending a session, and we'd love to have more. Speak with me if you are interested in sending a child or interested in helping to send a child to Camp Ramah. You'll be doing a great mitzvah and improving the future of our people.
